There are so many possibilities we would love to explore with the I-CAN! There are plenty of projects keeping us busy at CDS at the moment, but we hope to get working on these functions and more in 2010. When time and money permits, some of the visions we have for the I-CAN include:

Proposed Future I-CAN projects

• Emergency Hospital Admissions Form export (first drafts completed)
• Risk Assessment export
• My Contacts and Easy English phone book export
• Goals module (included in v4.2)
• Link with other human services databases or electronic Medical Records (eMR)
• Health check module
• Multilingual versions of the I-CAN
• Further Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) supports to encourage people with limited communication skills to participate in the I-CAN interview as much as possible
• Text-to-speech software, so the I-CAN website will administer a portion of the interview
• Mapping ICF / ICD / SNOMED codes to the I-CAN
• The "I-CAN Brief", a shortened version of the I-CAN (research / trials in progress)
• Many many possible research projects. e.g. How does support need relate to outcomes, quality of life or quality of services? How does support need relate to adaptive behaviour? Could the I-CAN be used for the difficult task of screening for dementia for people with an intellectual disability? How do support needs vary accross health domains or population groups? How can we utilise Med 2.0? How can support lead to a Life of Quality? etc
• And many other possibilities...
